As a multi-university Hub bringing together researchers and industry partners across different disciplines and sectors, we recognise that people have diverse experiences and needs. Our approach to EDI is to identify barriers where they arise and consider what we can do to address them.
EDI in practice:
Fair recruitment and having a voice
We consider inclusive practice in recruitment and provide opportunities for researchers to contribute to Hub decisions through the PDRA Committee.
Support from the outset
Tailored inductions give new PDRAs an opportunity to ask questions, understand the Hub and access relevant support. Where appropriate, conversations can also identify the need for reasonable adjustments.
Accessible participation
We consider accessibility and participation when organising Hub events and activities, providing information in advance and exploring adjustments where needed.
Development and belonging
Through mentorship, peer forums, training and networking, we create opportunities for researchers to build connections, develop their skills and feel part of the SCHEMA community.
EDI is an ongoing commitment rather than a finished task. We continue to learn from our community and to consider how our policies, activities and ways of working can be improved.
