Marcel is based at the University of Liverpool and his research focuses on the development of heterogeneous catalysts for the conversion of biomass-derived furfural into diols, which are important building blocks for the production of sustainable, bio-based polymers.
Marcel holds a Ph.D. in Advanced Materials and Chemical Engineering from the Korea National University of Science and Technology (2025). His doctoral research focused on developing heterogeneous catalysts and processes for the efficient conversion of biomass-derived carboxylic acids into poly alpha olefins (PAO), which are widely used as high-performance lubricants in the automotive and industrial sectors. Marcel is working under the guidance of Professor Matthew J. Rosseinsky.
