Marcel holds a Ph.D. in Advanced Materials and Chemical Engineering from the Korea National University of Science and Technology (2025). His doctoral research focused on developing heterogeneous catalysts and processes for the efficient conversion of biomass-derived carboxylic acids into poly alpha olefins (PAO), which are widely used as high-performance lubricants in the automotive and industrial sectors. He is currently a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Liverpool, working under the guidance of Professor Matthew J. Rosseinsky. His current research focuses on the development of heterogeneous catalysts for the conversion of biomass-derived furfural into diols, which are important building blocks for the production of sustainable, bio-based polymers.
